We aim for all children at Kew Riverside Primary to develop to their full potential. Our curriculum is based on four principles:
Broad – We introduce the children to a wide range of subjects, ideas, knowledge and skills. We embrace all areas of the curriculum, including the arts, music and sports.
Balanced – Each area of the curriculum is allocated an appropriate amount of time.
Relevant – Subjects are taught in a way that builds on the children’s own experiences and relates to their lives, both now and in the future.
Differentiated – We ensure that the curriculum is accessible to all children and is delivered at an appropriate level to match individual needs and abilities. We believe that children have individual learning styles and we plan according to those varied styles.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is aimed at children aged between 3 and 5 years old. The curriculum leads towards nationally agreed standards called the Early Learning Goals.
The Early Leaning Goals lead into the programmes of study for the National Curriculum which are studied in Key Stages 1 and 2.
The National Curriculum includes the three core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. It also includes other subjects; Computing, Languages, History, Geography, Art, Music, Design Technology (D&T), Physical Education (PE), Religious Education (RE) and Personal and Social Education (PSHE). In addition, we have a whole school curriculum for Relationship & Sex education (RSE).
We will offer many sessions throughout the year for parents, informing you of the teaching strategies that we use to deliver the curriculum. This enables you to support your child at home using the same approach and offers further opportunities for learning for both you and your child.
