Children at the heart of everything we do

Safeguarding Advice - Parliament Attack

Thursday 23rd March 2017

Dear Parents and Carers

I wanted to send a short message to you all following the terrible events in London yesterday.

This morning, the children from Monkey, Crocodile, Rhino and Lion classes were all spoken to by their teachers and given a chance to voice any worries or concerns they may have.  We used the guidance set out in the BBC Newsround website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/13865002) which is child-friendly and factual.  For our younger children, in Giraffes, Zebras and Elephants, we felt that we would deal with issues when and if they arose.

Over the next few days and weeks, the children may witness news items on TV or images in newspapers.  Therefore, we decided to spend this time to enlighten the children where necessary about the facts and to counter any misinformation or prejudicial comments that can sometimes come to light when there is a lack of understanding.

If you have any concerns regarding this, please contact me as soon as possible.

Kind regards

Darren Norman
