Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha
Find out about Lion class trip to the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Temple in Hounslow.
Today has been such an action packed and fun-filled day. Lion Class went to the Sikh Gurdwara temple in Hounslow. The temple was just the definition of beauty. This is what happened.
Firstly, we had to take two buses to get to Hounslow. It took quite a while, but we were not disappointed after we arrived at the Gurdwara. Our eyes were mesmerised when we caught glimpse of such art.
Shortly after taking in the amazing sight, we went inside and were welcomed by a woman, who came with a box of brightly coloured cloth. As a sign of respect, we had to cover our heads with what she gave us – scarves to cover our heads. The woman and Rachel, our teacher, helped us tie them up to our heads.
Moments after, we were lead into a room where people where singing and drumming. It sounded fabulous. It lasted for around five minutes and then we were taken to another room.
In that room, the woman held a question and answer session with us. It fulfilled all of our questions about Sikhism. Did you know the first guru was called Guru Nanak? Also, it is disrespectful to touch another person’s turban.
After that, we were taken to a big hall where we were provided with food. There was chapatti, yoghurt, vegetable curry, rice pudding and to wash it all down, orange flavoured squash. It was delicious and very filling.
Finally, we left the temple with great memories in our minds. All we thought about on the two buses home was how spectacular the trip was.
